Career Development
Since I graduated high school in 2012, I have been trying to figure out what medical profession would best suit me. I knew that I had always wanted to be in the medical field because of the interests I had developed through my academics. I was accepted as Summer Enrichment Program Student the summer of 2012, and it was then that I realized how much I wanted a career in therapy. Originally, I was interested in physical therapy and spent the summer of 2013 exploring that field further. It was through physical therapy that I discovered the field of Occupational Therapy.
In the summer of 2014, I shadowed therapists at Oconee Medical Center (now called Oconee Memorial Hospital) and learned that I had a new passion for occupational therapy. My experience at Oconee Memorial Hospital, led me to further research this excellent field. I have created a Career PowerPoint to help my research for occupational therapy. Also, to further obtain more insight on the field, I interviewed Ms. Cathy Styles, an Occupational Therapist at AnMed Health Pediatric Therapy Works. The responses I received from the interview were great in giving me a real perspective on the field. Through this process I became even more excited to work in the field!
Overall, I gained so much information by doing research on occupational therapy for my Career PowerPoint and Informational Interview. I look forward to a bright future in occupational therapy and cannot wait to have a career that helps people function in their everyday lives. Below, you can watch a short video describing the impact of occupational therapy.
